Sugi Therapy
Sugi therapy is a nonstandard Korean program label that some studios and training providers use for hands-on esthetic care. It doesn’t name one technique with an agreed sequence, pressure, or body area.
At Meccrom, the label refers to care centered on the hands, with several areas included according to the consultation. This is Meccrom’s use of the term, not an industry-wide definition.
How the term is used in Korea
Sugi (수기, 手技) means hand technique. Sugi therapy combines that Korean word with the English word therapy, but it isn’t a technique defined in a dictionary or national beauty skills standard.
Current Korean search results use the phrase in studio names, private course titles, and service menus. One program may mean full-body massage, while another may focus on selected areas or add heated tools.

The closest terms in beauty skills standards
Korea’s beauty skills framework uses manual techniques for hands-on facial and body work. International beauty qualifications use specific labels such as facial massage and body massage. We did not find a single international training standard called sugi therapy.
That makes the program description more useful than the label. It should tell you which areas are covered, what kind of contact is used, and whether tools or devices are added.
Sugi therapy and manual massage
There is no official line between the two terms, and Korean studios sometimes use them interchangeably.
- Manual massage: A broad market term for care done by hand.
- Sugi therapy: Often a name created by a studio or training provider for its own style of hands-on care.
No professional standard treats manual massage as an individual building block that sugi therapy automatically turns into a whole-body system.
Details a program description should include
- The areas covered and the session length
- Whether the session uses hands only or adds tools and devices
- Whether oil or another product is applied
- How the pressure and excluded areas can be adjusted
- What training sits behind the program
The name alone doesn’t support claims about pain treatment, posture correction, detoxification, or circulation.
Meccrom’s use of the term
Meccrom uses the term for care built around direct contact with the hands. The consultation identifies the areas you want included, any contact you don’t want, and the pressure that feels comfortable. It doesn’t mean that every client receives one fixed routine.
This definition describes Meccrom’s program only. Other studios may use sugi therapy differently.
