Posture changes with activity, fatigue, pain, habit, and the way you feel that day. A single photo or shoulder-height difference can’t reveal the condition of the skeleton.

Meccrom’s use of the term

Meccrom doesn’t use skeletal balance to classify a condition. It is a way to notice where someone places their weight while standing, which neck or shoulder movement feels less comfortable, and how the soft tissue around the back and pelvis responds to touch.

Skeletal balance care looks at posture and tension in the surrounding muscles together.

Balance doesn’t mean perfect symmetry here. A visible difference between the two sides isn’t labeled abnormal. It simply helps the practitioner adjust position and pressure during the session.

Posture and the skeleton

Posture is how the body sits, stands, and moves. Bones and joints play a part, but so do muscle activity, sensation, and the surrounding environment. Chair height, foot position, gaze, and fatigue can all change the posture of the same person.

The skeleton is the body’s framework of bones. An esthetic practitioner can’t diagnose the spine or joints from shoulder or pelvic lines. One shoulder looking higher doesn’t prove that the bones are misaligned, and asymmetry alone can’t establish the cause of pain.

Looking at the face and body together

During facial care, observing the neck and shoulders helps the practitioner find a comfortable position and choose where to place their hands. That’s why Meccrom may look beyond the face to the neck, shoulders, and back.

This doesn’t mean the pelvis or shoulder blades change facial bones. Meccrom doesn’t claim that body care makes the face smaller or corrects facial asymmetry.

Scope of esthetic care

The practitioner places their hands on the skin and soft tissue around the shoulders, back, and pelvis and adjusts pressure. If the two sides feel different, equal force isn’t applied at the expense of comfort. The body may feel more comfortable afterward, though experiences vary.

Hands-on esthetic care doesn’t push bones into place or adjust joints. It can’t promise to change the skeleton or normalize posture.

Medical assessment

Persistent pain, numbness or weakness in the arms or legs, or a sudden change in movement needs medical assessment first. A clinician evaluates the structure of the spine and joints and the state of the nerves.

Related terms

Skeleton: The framework of bones that supports the body and protects organs.

Posture: The position the body takes while sitting, standing, or moving.

Asymmetry: A visible or functional difference between the two sides. A visible difference between the two sides doesn’t establish a condition.

Does one high shoulder mean the pelvis is misaligned?
Shoulder height alone can’t reveal the condition of the pelvis or spine. Foot position, weight shift, and fatigue can all change posture.

Does care correct the skeleton?
No. Hands-on esthetic care doesn’t adjust bones or joints. Comfort around the treated areas varies by person.

This glossary entry is for general information.
