Rounded Back
Rounded back is an everyday description for an upper back that appears noticeably curved from the side. It does not identify one cause or serve as a medical diagnosis.
Meaning of rounded back
The phrase can refer to a temporary sitting posture or a more persistent change in appearance. Because it covers many different situations, the words alone do not reveal the condition of the spine or muscles.

Other posture descriptions
Round shoulders focuses on shoulders that sit forward. Forward head posture focuses on the position of the head. Rounded back focuses on the curve of the upper back. All three can appear together, but they are not synonyms.
Difference from thoracic kyphosis
The thoracic spine naturally curves toward the back. In health care, kyphosis can describe this normal curve or an excessive curve assessed through an examination and, when needed, imaging. An everyday observation of a rounded back does not by itself establish a spinal disorder.
Use in esthetics
Back care may be marketed with rounded back language. Esthetic hands-on care works around the skin and soft tissue of the back. It does not alter the spinal curve or treat kyphosis.
A newly rounded back, loss of height, or pain after a fall or injury needs medical assessment.
