Pressure Spot

In Korean science education, the term translated here as pressure spot means a point in the skin that senses pressure. It does not mean a place that should be pressed during massage.

Pressure sensation in the skin

Skin detects touch, pressure, temperature, and pain through sensory receptors and nerves. Pressure spot is an older educational label within this sensory context.

Acupoints and trigger points

An acupoint is a named location in traditional East Asian medicine. A myofascial trigger point is a clinical concept involving a sensitive spot in a taut band of muscle. These terms have different backgrounds and definitions.

Wording in massage

For massage, area of pressure or contact point is clearer than borrowing this Korean science term. Pressing such a point should not be claimed to improve circulation or pain.
